The Northeast Development Commission has presented relief materials to victims of the recent flood disaster in Gombe.
Presenting the items at Government secondary school, Gandu in Gombe local Government, Gombe state coordinator of the Commission, Rufa’i Lawan Babamanu said the gesture was to provide succour to the victims who lost their properties as a result of the disaster.
Rufa’i who said the materials presented were not a replacement of losses added that it will help the victims that lost a lot to the flood disaster.
He added that it is the mandate of the Northeast Development Commission in rehablitating and providing relief to victims of disasters in the region.
” we have done similar gesture in many local governments and today we presenting the relief package to flood victims in Gombe local government,, he said.
Some of the beneficiaries interviewed, Rukayya Ismail and Babangida Musa expressed gratitude to the Northeast development commission for providing the relief items to them, calling on wealthy individuals to also complement the gesture of the Commission.
Three hundred and fifty victims received the relief materials that include bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, cooking oil, wrappers, blankets mats among others.
It could be recalled, last month a heavy downpour that resulted in flooding claimed two lives, destroyed several houses and properties worth millions of naira in Gombe metropolis and some towns and villages of the state.
